Quite simply, tire rotation is when tires are moved from one position on a vehicle to another. For the majority of vehicles, the front tires will move to the rear and the rear tires will move to the front. Depending on the drive train and wear, they may also change sides, so what was the rear left tire will end up as the front right tire.
The majority of vehicles carry more weight at the front, so their front tires will typically wear out faster. To prevent the uneven wear that this can cause, tire rotation is recommended. This service also is important for tire longevity, whether you’re sticking to short commutes between Chicago and Naperville or making a cross-country drive from Oswego.
