What is Lane Departure Warning?

Lane Departure Warning Diagram

You may have seen Lane Departure Warning (LDW) listed as a feature on a new Honda you’re interested in, but what is Lane Departure Warning? This Honda safety feature helps Chicago drivers avoid possible collisions caused by drifting out of their lane. Found standard in most new Honda models, this feature is a part of the Honda Sensing® safety suite. Learn what Lane Departure Warning is and get answers to questions like, “How does LDW work,” with Valley Honda.

How LDW Works

So, how does LDW work? Using cameras located near the rearview mirror, this feature detects lane markings. If your vehicle’s wheels move past that lane marker, you’ll be alerted to move back into your lane with a flashing indicator and beeping noise. In certain situations, you may even feel the steering wheel and seat vibrate. The Lane Departure Warning system can help protect you from accidents due to:

  • Sideswiping
  • Drifting too far in an adjoining lane
  • A rollover
  • And more!

This system is automatically activated in Honda models when you start your vehicle. With other vehicle makers, you may need to be activated by pushing a button. It’s also important to note that if your turn signal is activated, Lane Departure Warning will not be triggered.

Options for Lane Departure Warning

When equipped in a Honda model, this system offers customizations to ensure you’re protected on the streets and highways around Oswego and beyond. Personalize your warning types, feedback, and more with:

  • Adjustable audible warning levels
  • Visual alerts with a flashing lane marking symbol
  • Haptic feedback warnings including wheel and seat vibrations
  • Option to disable the system
  • Highway’s edge recognition
